What is Expedition?
R.O.C.K. (Razorback Outreach for Community and Knowledge) Camp Expedition is a once-in-a-lifetime experience held in conjunction with the UREC Outdoors located within University Recreation. R.O.C.K. Camp Expedition in the Rocky Mountains wilderness offers students an experience completely unique to any other available.
R.O.C.K. Camp Expedition provides a rugged and exhilarating experience for students who are truly looking to embrace all that nature has to offer… all while learning what it means to be a True Razorback! Students will challenge themselves as individuals and as a community while living in the wilderness together. The intimate setting of the backcountry is the perfect place for new Arkansas students to build their first strong community as Razorbacks.
Our 2018 Expedition
We will be backpacking through the Indian Peaks Wilderness park, just south of the Rocky Mountain National Park.
This trip will be a true backpacking experience, combining “frontcountry” and “backcountry” campsites experiences. On the first and last days you will have access to running water, restrooms, and a vehicle. For the backpacking portion of the trip you will be moving each day between campsites, with no services available at any of the sites.
Arrival/Departure – Students will meet our staff in Denver, CO.
- Students must arrive at Denver International Airport by 2:00pm on Sunday July 15th
- Students must schedule return flights after 1:00pm on Friday July 20th
- Meeting and drop-off location: Caribou Coffee at the West Terminal
Expedition Itinerary
Sunday, July 15th
Arrive at airport. Vehicle transport to campsite at Arapahoe Bay. Spend the evening getting to know our gear and each other. Camp at Arapahoe Bay.
Monday, July 16th
Final pack out at Arapahoe Bay, hike in to backcountry. Night #1 in the backcountry
Tuesday, July 17th
Night #2 in backcountry
Wednesday, July 18th
Night #3 in backcountry
Thursday, July 19th
Hike out to Arapahoe Bay, camp with services and vehicles, unpack, debrief, wash off
Friday, July 20th
Shuttle to Airport
